Retailers Are Relying More on Sustainable Supply Chains

Progressive Grocer discusses the retailers and manufacturers accentuating responsibly sourced products to make it easier for shoppers to feel good about what they buy. According to a study conducted online by The Harris Poll on behalf of Whole Foods, 75% of Americans said that when they are grocery shopping, it’s important to them that products are responsibly sourced. Yet 65% of shoppers admitted that they’re confused about how to determine whether a product is responsibly sourced.

Progressive Grocer features Whole Foods Market’s Sourced for Good seal. The new program is an exclusive third-party certification program that encompasses more than 100 products throughout Whole Foods stores. The products are certified by groups such as Fair Trade USA, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade America, Fair Food Program and Equitable Food Initiative. Sourced for Good seal will help customers identify products that support workers, communities and the environment by providing things like improved wages, health care, student scholarships, and planting trees to prevent erosion.
