The Equitable Food Initiative model is designed to create a culture of collaboration on farms, and it has been successful because of the Leadership Teams that are put in place on each certified farm.
EFI Leadership Teams are composed of eight to 19 people who represent the different work functions of the farming operation. Teams are also formed to reflect the gender and regional diversity of the workforce.
Team members receive at least 40 hours of training on effective problem-solving processes, data gathering, communication and conflict resolution.
Leadership Teams that are put in place on each EFI-certified farm work collaboratively to ensure safer food and healthier working conditions.
They work together to define and solve issues to ensure the farm meets the rigorous EFI Standards for labor practices, food safety and pest management.
