Tip of the Iceberg Podcast – Episode 22: How Do You Know if You’re on the Right Track with Sustainability?

In this podcast episode focusing on sustainability in the more traditional definition, Stephanie Teclaw, Quality Program Manager with RPE joins LeAnne Ruzzamenti, Marketing and Communications Director for EFI.

Last year, after conducting an industry assessment, EFI uncovered a real need in the industry around sustainability. While produce growers/shippers are being asked to measure and report on their sustainability efforts to their customers, they often lack the dedicated staff with foundational knowledge to complete these measurements and reports. To help the industry, EFI developed an online, multi-day, customized course that equips a team at a single company with a strong foundational knowledge of sustainability concepts and reporting.

In this podcast episode, Stephanie Teclaw shared her experiences with the course and offered insights on how it could benefit other grower-shippers. She emphasized the importance of understanding sustainability concepts at a fundamental level and improving communication around these efforts. For a deeper understanding of the types of requests growers and shippers receive from their buyers, be sure to listen to the complete podcast episode.

Additionally, Stephanie highlighted that each company’s journey toward sustainability is unique and should be focused on progress rather than perfection. The expectation is not to achieve perfection but to show improvement, which is a journey that each company must navigate with confidence.
