New Hope Network interviewed EFI’s Executive Director, Peter O’Drisscoll, for a piece about the social responsibility standards of our certification. The article explains all the meaningful approaches behind our label. From farmworker bonuses to the establishment of Leadership Teams on each EFI-certified farming operation.
In the past five years, purchases of EFI-labeled produce have generated approximately $8 million in worker bonuses. “Farmworkers have a great deal of skill, experience and perspective that can contribute to food safety if that experience is sought and emphasized,” said O’Drisscoll. “EFI helps to bring that farmworker knowledge to the fore, and compensates them for the role they play in food safety efforts on farms,” he adds.
