The latest Produce Blueprint from Blue Book takes a dive into corporate social responsibility, sustainability compliance audits and ethical business practices. The publication cites Equitable Food Initiative (EFI) as an organization that’s joining forces to increase transparency. EFI provides assurance regarding food safety, pest management, and labor conditions.
The author calls EFI a holistic focus on corporate social responsibility. The organization provides a cross-chain stakeholder engagement, and collaboration which generates positive benefits for the 30-plus farms certified by EFI.
Other benefits mentioned were better worker recruitment and retention, prioritization of continuous process improvements and reduced audit fatigue.
“Working with one set of standards and guidelines like EFI is far less stressful, costly, and time-consuming than dealing with the individual audit processes of multiple retailers.”
