National Farmworker Awareness Week

March 25 - 31, 2024

What is Farmworker Awareness Week?

Farmworker Awareness Week occurs annually at the end of March to honor the daily contributions farmworkers make to our food system.

Equitable Food Initiative is always proud to honor the contributions of farmworkers because their skills and contributions are essential to getting fresh and healthy food on supermarket shelves.

Support Farmworkers, Buy Responsibly Grown, Farmworker Assured Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

EFI provides training and a place for all workers to have a voice in the farming operation. The worker-management collaborative team on each EFI-certified farm works together to meet more than 300 of the highest standards in the industry and make continuous improvements. These teams played a vital role in keeping workers safe while ensuring product availability and continuity during the pandemic.

When you support the socially responsible brands in the EFI Program, you are helping ensure healthier, safer and respectful workplaces for the people who grow and harvest your fresh fruits and vegetables.

3 Ways to Support Farmworkers

1. Shop for the EFI Label and support brands with EFI-certified farms.

Look for the Responsibly Grown, Farmworker Assured label which means healthier working conditions and safer food. Your purchase of EFI-labeled fresh fruits and vegetables returns a bonus back to the workers who produced it. More than $14 million has been paid to workers as bonuses through the EFI Program!

Look for the brands that embrace socially responsible practices and certify farms to the EFI Standards:

2. Share the love.

Elevate the role of farmworkers on social media. Create a post or share a Facebook or Instagram post from @equitablefood. Use #FarmworkerAwarenessWeek and #ThankAFarmworker.

3. Stay Connected.

Sign up for the EFI email newsletters sent every month (we promise never to share your address!). It features stories of farmworker contributions, recipes from socially responsible brands and an inside look at fresh fruit and vegetable farms.
